I thought here we go again when the schedule came out and I saw the Steelers first up. I watched the opening drive and as the team went backwards and had their fist punt blocked resulting in a Pittsburgh touchdown and I thought here we go again. However, after the initial drive, the team started to show that maybe we will be a much improved team.
The Browns managed to tie the score prior to the end of the first quarter on a Deshone Kizer 1 yard run. The Steelers added another touchdown before halftime and held that lead going into the third quarter.
The Browns led off the third quarter with a field goal but Pittsburgh followed that up with another touchdown making the score 21-10 going into the final stanza.
It took 11 minutes before the Browns would score their final touchdown of the day and a two point conversion brought the Browns within three; however, the Browns were unable to get the ball back to gain an opportunity to tie or win the game.
Overall the team played well on this opening day. The defense kept Ben Roethlisberger on his toes all day and Leveon Bell was a non-factor. It has been a long time since the Browns have been able to hold a quality offensive back like Bell in check. The main negative I saw from the day was the seven sacks that the Browns gave up many of which were the result of Kizer holding onto the ball too long. At the end of the day the Browns are showing promise and potential that the comeback is underway.
Thank you to the 69 fans who showed up on Sunday. Come join us at George’s for the Ravens game Sunday at 1.
